Butch
Felix is a Sicangu with Lakota names of: TATE YUHA MUNI (WALKS WITH
WIND) and WAKIYE CIKALA (LITTLE JUDGE). Born and raised on the Rosebud
Reservation in South Dakota by grandparents who provided teachings
in many aspects of Lakota life. This included dancing to his granfather's
songs as soon as he was walking and his grandmother's stories of
our ancestors.
Announcing at pow wows has a special place in his heart and mind,
it shows that our culture is alive and well and continues to survive
for our future generations. Our language, customs, songs, dances,
and living out of our virtues defines our unique heritage. This
gives him much pride, personally and culturally. Having listenend
to his Elder's advice and teachings continues to be a guiding advantage.
As a Vietnam Veteran, serving aboard an aircraft carrier as an Aviation
Ordinanceman in the Tonkin Gulf off the Coast of Vietnam in 1967-1969,
he has much respect for the Tokala, Akicita/Warrior Societies.
